At the primary level the focus of physical education is development of physical fitness, motor skills, manipulative skills, and team sport skills. A strong emphasis is made to teach the children the rules and strategies of games as well as to demonstrate a Christ-like attitude toward self and others.
The physical education program at Warsaw Christian School is divided into three (3) main categories: Preschool, primary (K-2nd), and upper elementary (3rd-6th).
At the upper elementary level the focus of physical education is development of physical fitness, individual and team sport skills, manipulative skills, and lifetime leisure activities. A strong emphasis is made to teach the children the rules and strategies of games as well as to demonstrate a Christ-like attitude toward self and others.
For over 30 years, Warsaw Christian School has offered swimming lessons through the YMCA as part of our Physical Education curriculum. I believe we are the only elementary school in Warsaw that offers this for our students. For some students, this is the only swimming instruction they have ever had and will have. It is rewarding for me to see the students gain confidence in the water and overcome whatever fear or anxiety they may have. For some, this may be putting their face in the water; for others, it is swimming all the way across the pool unaided. For the students, their favorite part of the lessons is probably the free time or races we do on the last day, or the safety lesson where they learn how to "save" each other with pool noodles. As their PE teacher, my favorite part is seeing the students being active and having fun in a different environment, and I feel good about the fact that they are being taught by instructors who enjoy being with kids and who share the same values as Warsaw Christian, such as respect, responsibility, honesty, and doing your best. We really appreciate the parents who make this possible by transporting the students to/from the YMCA and assisting in the locker room. Thank you moms and dads!
