Mrs. Miller's 2nd grade

Welcome to second grade at Warsaw Christian School where we begin each day learning from God’s Word how to be like Jesus in our walk and talk. Then we carry that in our hearts and minds throughout the day in each of our subjects.

We enjoy putting to practice the excellent reading skills that we have learned in first grade. Reading takes us to special places right here in our own community such as the Billy Sunday Home and a historical walk through Winona Lake. In the fall we enjoy the beauty and excitement of a trip to a nearby pumpkin patch. And in the spring a visit to Science Central and Lawton Park in Fort Wayne is a special time for us.

Of course every second grader says the highlight is learning cursive and we are no exception!   In fact we do all of our spelling in cursive in the final quarter of the school year!

WARSAW CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

June 5, 2008

Dear Parents,

Our theme this year has been “Celebrating Education for Life and Proclaiming Faith for Living.”  As we have studied Psalm 145 we have learned that God desires us to have joyful praise, thankfulness, reverence to God and others, compassion, sincerity, graciousness and many other character qualities that witness to the fact that we belong to Jesus.  I pray that we can all apply these traits to our lives at school, home, church, in the neighborhood or wherever we are. It has been a great year as we have celebrated the 50th birthday of our school.

I have been privileged to be your child’s teacher this year.  We have strived to enhance and support your teachings at home. We have seen growth in your children because God has been at work in their lives.  This growth will only continue as we pray for our children, lovingly discipline them, and encourage them to read God’s Word and pray daily.

Your child has taken home some pages from worktexts that we were unable to complete because of time restraints this year.  I encourage you to help your child “play school” and work on these pages. Also, please get your child involved in a library program either with your church or the public library. I hope that the children keep reading lots of good books this summer.  I look forward to reading this summer because I love to read also.

Be sure to notice the results of your child’s “Star” reading and math tests.  They will show you how he has progressed in reading and math this past year.  All of those A.R. books and quizzes have paid huge dividends!  I am so proud of all of the Accelerated Math that the children have done this year.  Their Math scores show great progress.  We took 2556 A.R. quizzes this year and earned an average correct of  89.5 % plus we read many non A.R. books!  Don’t you think that we are little “Bookworms”?

I pray that each of you will have a great summer being together with your family, relaxing, reading, and enjoying God and all of His blessings. The “dusty miller” plant will grow best in the sun just as we all grow best in the “Sonlight” of God’s Word and His love.

We wish to thank Mrs. Turner, Mrs. Wright, Mrs. Wayman and Mrs. Bowdler for the great day they planned for us as our “year end” party.  If other moms helped and I didn’t mention your name, we are thankful for you also.  God gave us wonderful weather and we all had lots of fun!  You may pick up your lovely plaque at Pottery Bayou any time. Please tell them that your child was there with the second grade field trip and that will help them to quickly locate your project.

If you have medicine in the office, please pick it up when you get your report card because it will be disposed of soon.  Also, if you could make a $5.00 donation to our full color yearbook, that would be most appreciated.

I love you all and thank you again for your support and encouragement and prayers during the past year.  I could not have made it without you.  What a blessing you all are!!  God bless each of you!

With prayers,

                                                            Mrs. Miller
