CHIMES
Chimes class is an elective offered to students in the 6th grade, but may be extended to include students in the 5th and 4th grades if numbers, talent, and/or interest make it necessary. Its purpose is to further develop students' musical abilities through learning to play a musical instrument in an ensemble situation.
To participate, students must obtain parental permission and teacher approval. Students will be placed after permission is granted and a basic audition is given. This audition will test basic theory knowledge and simple sight-reading skills. A very basic understanding of these skills is essential to playing chimes.
Chimes class focuses on the fundamentals of correct chimes technique, as well as reading a musical score, ensemble playing, and following a director.
The W.C.S. Chimes perform for Grandparent’s Day, the Christmas concert, the Spring Program and Sixth Grade Graduation. They may also perform for the any other events as they have opportunity.
"Musical training is a more potent instrument than any other (for education) because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul, on which they mightily fasten, imparting grace, and making the soul of him who is rightly educated graceful, or of him who is ill-educated ungraceful." -Plato
